Fiber-Laser Technician
QTek Laser is seeking a Fiber-Laser Technician with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in the assembly and alignment of fiber and/or free-space laser systems. This role supports both manufacturing and R&D activities, and involves component inspection, precision assembly, documentation, and failure analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble laser systems in accordance with detailed work instructions and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate with engineering team to develop, prototype and improve laser system performance.
- Operate and maintain sensitive optical production equipment (e.g., fiber splicers, fiber cleavers, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters) after appropriate training.
- Select and evaluate optical fiber components to meet quality and performance standards.
- Conduct system-level laser characterization and assist in optical alignment and troubleshooting.
- Maintain and calibrate lab and production equipment such as lasers, laser systems, microscopes, oscilloscopes, pulse generators, power meters, beam analyzers, and energy measurement devices.
- Thoroughly document assembly procedures, calibration steps and test results.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the workspace in compliance with optical standards.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the optical fiber or laser systems industry.
- Strong hands-on ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and follow complex technical schematics and manuals.
- Effective problem-solving skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex engineering concepts. Excellent documentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Proficiency in documenting work using Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Laser Technology, Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience working with laser systems in a technical or maintenance role.
- Laser safety certification or formal training in optical laboratory practices.
- Working knowledge of fiber optics, including rare earth-doped gain fibers, fiber couplers, isolators, combiners, filters technologies and related components.
- Hands-on experience with optical instrumentation, such as fiber splicers, fiber cleavers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, wavemeters, and beam profilers.
- Understanding of laser physics and optical system performance.
Fiber-Laser Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Fiber-Laser Engineer to design, develop, and characterize advanced fiber-laser systems for quantum applications. This role also involves supporting product manufacturing and ensuring the reliability and performance of laser systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop low-noise, high-power fiber-laser systems for quantum applications.
- Perform laser failure analysis and implement improvements to enhance system reliability.
- Select and evaluate optical fiber components to ensure optimal performance and quality.
- Conduct laser characterization and actively contribute to product assembly.
- Generate comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, test plans, analysis reports, operational procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and oversee their work as needed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in fiber-laser engineering, including the design, development, and validation of fiber-laser systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- Hands-on expertise with fiber optics, including Yb-doped, Er-doped, and Tm-doped gain fibers, fiber couplers, isolators, combiners, and filters.
- Proficiency in using optical instrumentation, such as fiber splicers, fiber cleavers, optical spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, wavemeters, and beam profilers.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex engineering concepts. Excellent documentation skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience.
- Experience working with free-space optics, such as mirrors, PBS cubes, and waveplates.
- Proficiency in numerical simulations for laser system design, including thermal management, gain efficiency, and ASE suppression.
- Knowledge of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, as well as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, and microcontroller programming. Experience with nonlinear frequency conversion techniques.
